Ply Mus Fest '19 V

“Ocean City Sound” is the performing chorus of The Plymouth Barbershop Harmony Club.

The club was formed in 1978 and continues today with around thirty enthusiastic members, singing in four-part close harmony.  All members sing as part of the chorus but the club also gives the opportunity for any member to sing as part of a smaller group or quartet. This style of close harmony singing is a most satisfying and rewarding musical genre relying, as it does, on all members singing with a unity of purpose rather than individual acclaim.

The repertoire is varied but consists mainly of songs chosen for their popularity with the general public, both ballad and upbeat, and for the opportunities those songs provide for harmonization. The club meets on Tuesday evenings in order to enjoy the fun of singing together, to refresh the repertoire and learn new songs.

The club has always helped local charities as much as possible by performing at many fundraising events each year. Also, additionally, direct donations are made from club funds totaling at least £500 annually.

New members are always welcome regardless of their experience and are quickly integrated into the chorus. They are given every help, through the group learning process, to improve and develop their singing abilities.  No one sings solo!

We love an audience at any time, so if you would like to visit any rehearsal, just to sit and listen or to sing a little with us, we would be very glad to see you. We know that the experience will bring you back for more. There is nothing like hearing a large chorus close-up or, even better, being part of it!
